collaboration with PICHULIK

A fun collaboration designing and making wooden earrings with PICHULIK, for a small capsule within their SS19 Collection, Joy!

Conceptualised by Katherine Pichulik and I. I made lots of samples which we eventually distilled down to 3 styles, each to be made in 2 or 3 different colour-ways. I’ve hand made and hand painted each piece. The painted pieces are carved and shaped in light-weight pine, the layer of colour is waterproof. Plain wood pieces are made of Beech, lightly oiled.  Earrings were assembled with their other components in the Pichulik Cape Town studio.

Presenting: Jade Hoops in pearl white and coral red, Coral Antlers in pearl white and coral red, and Adrestia – a beautiful mix of wood, rope and brass – in pearl white, coral red and earth (oiled raw beech wood).

The JOY! collection captures childlike imagination. It is the instinctive jubilant expression of ourselves and how we relate to the objects gleaned around us as symbols of sentiment and adornment.

In keeping with previous seasons, Katherine Pichulik has collaborated with women who inspire her and share a commitment to crafting and materials. Katherine resonated with the work Anne was doing with wood, where organic, found timber can become symbols and recognition of a passage of time, a visceral response to wood and the patience required to carve it into form.

In the Pichulik JOY! collection, wooden elements reference the fauvist collage of Matisse, or the nautical symbol of a buoy. Painted and white washed, they are finished with brass and rope.
