collaboration with UZURI

A range of neck pieces, a collaboration between Uzuri and I, made to complement their Summer 2018 collection of footwear.

I designed and made a range of wooden beads, which the Uzuri team then creatively assembled into a collection of neck pieces, made to complement their seasonal range of footwear.

These purely hand crafted beads are made of black walnut, white maple, camphor, saringa and yellowwood. Edges have been knife cut, and flat surfaces have been sanded silky smooth – they’re tactile and yet subtly elegant. The colour palette imitates the natural world: caramel browns, mustardy yellows and rich hues of green and wood.

Alijiunga means ‘joined’ in Swahili – the joining of the texture and grain of different woods with richly coloured tassels and hand shaped clay beads, and the joining hands of two creative businesses to create this collection.
